Motek Received a Grant From The European Commission For "E-Motion"
A Web Based Database for Doctors and Researchers

April 2002, Amsterdam - The European Commission has approved a grant proposal by MOTEK BV, along with 3 partners, for developing "E-Motion". E Motion is a web-based database that offers applications, relating to human motions. Using E-Motion, experts will be able to develop, understand, analyze, treat or imitate, realistic human motions in order to realize their professional quest. E-Motion will offer services contributing to medical assessment, comparable tools for human motion, blending and forecasting human motions tool, all in real-time 3D web environment.

Along with the institute of Human Movement Science of the University of Groningen, Department of Rehabilitation of the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) of Amsterdam and Mxi Tokapi, MOTEK established a consortium, to advance E-Motion and to apply for the European Commission grant.

Initiated by MOTEK, E-Motion will be using two of MOTEK's main technologies:
UNICA's blending tool, which encapsulates the rules of bio mechanics and automatically enforces them providing a life-like data set for animating computer generated objects. UNICA is a web-based motion capture solution, that allows users to create an infinite number of unique motion capture sequences on the fly, in real-time 3D Environment.
CAREN system - A turnkey, customable real-time motion tracking and visualization environment designed for the medical industry. Based on MOTEK's patented D-Flow Technology.
CAREN allows medical experts to view and analyze balance and coordination disorders in a faster than real-time and interactive, controlled environment, enhancing diagnostic and therapeutic activities. CAREN offers a software solution for real-time motion tracking of patient movements and relates these in a feedback loop in a virtual assessment environment to desired motion or motion to be (re)trained. In addition, CAREN enables to compare the patient's actual behaviour with what it should be after successful treatment, allowing for the first time to develop medical standards in the field of motion.
