Integrated Reality Comes to SHEBA
SHEBA- TEL HASHOMER rehabilitation hospital in Israel has just completed the installation of CAREN at its premises.
CAREN (Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment) is a multi sensory system for diagnostics, rehabilitation, evaluation and registration
of human balance behavior and movement control. The system works in real-time and enables the creation of a variety of experiences in a
controlled and repeatable environment by using several VR principals. CAREN is a motion platform, that enables manipulation of the ground
on which the person is standing, while motion capture systems measure and registers the human movements, placing the human in the heart of
a predictive feedback loop. These situations force full concentration and awareness of posture, balance and locomotion. Therapists can use
this opportunity and empower their patients with new balance and motion strategies, as well as changing and improving current
patterns, thereby decreasing the time needed for accurate diagnosis and successful rehabilitation, whether in wheelchair, prosthesis
customization, or on their own feet. CAREN was developed by MOTEK. November 19, 2004.
