April 2002, Amsterdam - MOTEK completed successfully a
motion capture production ordered by British Curly Monsters. The
project was a racing game for the X-Box console and included 16
characters: eight females and eight males.
The production was the first production coming from
the entertainment market to utilize MOTEK's simulation capabilities,
using D-Flow software and the 6 degrees of freedom motion platform
that was specially designed for MOTEK. Quantum Redshift is a racing
game using special futuristic motorcycle/spaceship. Realistic simulation
of the vehicle was crucial in order to get realistic body movements
during the motion capture sessions. MOTEK overcame this challenge
by building and fixing to the motion platform a motorcycle shape
construction and attaching it to the motion platform. Using D-Flow,
the director manipulated the movement of the motion platform, simulating
different road conditions simply by moving a computer mouse. In
the meantime, the motion of the actor and the platform was captured,
resulting high quality and realistic motion capture data. To complete
customer requirements a second operator used a pair of Cyber Gloves
to generate finger motion data.
MOTEK designs, creates and markets motion capture
data solutions, real-time or post-production. Internationally recognized
for its pioneering work in the field, MOTEK brings technologies
developed for high-end simulation into commercial- , medical-, simulation-
and advertising environments. MOTEK also draws on its expertise
in motion capture technology to provide a wide-array of professional
services, such as custom motion capture project development, location
based entertainment programming, animation and consulting services.
